Curriculum Design for Breakaway Adoption Solutions

  • Instructional Designer, Learning and Development Consultant
Senior Instructional Designer, Learning and Development Consultant
    Training Manager and Project Architect
Associate Director, Learning and Client Engagement

  • Through my work with Breakaway Adoption Solutions, I assess content, conduct job analyses, and work with subject matter experts to design curricula that address project and client needs. Learning modalities are set for external clients, and I get the opportunity to determine them for internal projects. Depending on project needs, I use one or a combination of the following approaches to education: online simulations, instructor-led training, documentation, job shadowing, videos, conceptual e-learning courses, and online courseware that combines process-driven and conceptual material.

I am particularly proud of my work redesigning the onboarding curriculum for our department. This project covers three roles and goes through company basics and job-specific information, preparing our team members for their day-to-day work developing and maintaining eight company products. I focused on reducing labor needs and increasing the scalability of our onboarding program, and I added KPIs for every learning item to provide clear measurements of success. I leveraged a variety of learning formats for this curriculum, such as interactive e-learning, reference documentation, microvideos, curated external learning, and hands-on practice. I also increased the amount of learning that can serve multiple roles and created more content that people can take on their own. Pairing self-driven learning with instructor-led sessions and regular check-ins will lessen the time commitment for our training staff while providing a quality, supportive experience for new employees. To round things out, post-onboarding evaluations will allow for continuous program improvement and evolution.

Learning Development for Breakaway Adoption Solutions

  • Instructional Designer, Learning and Development Consultant
Senior Instructional Designer, Learning and Development Consultant

  • I had the opportunity to work with a number of clients during my time as an instructional designer and senior instructional designer for Breakaway Adoption Solutions. Our group takes a multi-modal approach to learning, so I got to design and develop a variety of content while monitoring overall project progress. During my tenure in these roles, and with the help of my fellow team members, I designed and developed 233+ e-learning courses containing 364+ lessons. Most of these courses had matching job aids. I also created 33+ final assessments that tested learners on 152+ tasks and developed 33+ instructor-led training guides containing 219+ hours of classroom content. Our group maintains contact with our clients after initial development, so I also had the opportunity to update and maintain 55+ online learning courses (135+ lessons) and 6+ final assessments. We have a content-agnostic approach that lends itself well to a variety of projects, so the education I developed covered various topics, such as electronic health record systems, time-keeping applications, and soft skills.

ISD Process Design

  • Individual Project

  • This document is an instructional module developed to teach learners within their 20’s how to properly order, identify, and define the steps involved in tying off a block (a piece of circus equipment). It is not a final draft, as further revision processes were halted.

Instructional Module

  • Individual Project

  • This document details the design of an instructional video I created on the Coherence Principal. This information influenced future video production.

Instructional Video Design Paper

  • Individual Project

  • This is a proposal for implementing a revised version of the ADDIE model to address organizational gaps within the Florida State University Flying High Circus. I crafted this updated, ADDIE-based process, and the proposal marks the completion of months of work examining the program with different instructional design techniques. All documents were created within the constraints of the actual organization but were not delivered to the group.

Articulate Courseware

  • Lead Developer

  • This image is a look at one of twenty-five modules I revised and converted from PowerPoint to Articulate. This and the other twenty-four modules were implemented for an undergraduate distance learning course at the Florida State University that has hundreds of students per semester. Prior to my departure, the school was looking into selling a condensed version of the course to other universities and offering this content for non-degree seeking students.
